Healthy Dieting: The Best Return on Investment (ROI)

Dieting

Regarding dieting, growing up in grade school, we were always taught that, “you are what you eat”. This was about the bad eating choices we had as children. Of course, as kids, we didn’t care what teachers and parents had to say. After school, we sought out pizzas, burgers, and whatever sugary snacks we could find. Ah, the good ole days.

Now as an adult, I completely agree with the teachings adults were trying to impress upon our naïve brains. I look at the word diet as more than consuming food. I look at a diet as any that our bodies digest.  Now when I say digest, I don’t mean digest meaning eating. Moreso on the lines of consuming in the form intake. For example, watching television for a long period. This could be a form of intake. Now, let’s talk dieting.

Healthy Dieting

Of course, when talking about a healthy diet, you automatically start thinking of kale salads and bland chicken. Yes, this does count. However, I want to discuss other forms of dieting that may help you on your journey to success. On the topic of eating, consuming more refreshing whole foods may be a good place to start.

Your body needs nutrition; the best way to provide nutrition is by consuming whole foods and fresh proteins. This will increase your energy levels, help build your immunity, and fight inflammation. But what other healthy diets can there be regarding being healthy? What about what your brain consumes? Just like your body needs nutrition to become optimized for performance, so does your brain.

Your brain consumes just about everything that it sees. This can be good or bad, however, it is based on how you would like to use your brain. In another instance, consuming what you listen to can contribute to the type of diet you are participating in. Keep in mind that the things we consume can be through listening, reading, or eating. As stated before, this can either be a good or a bad thing. However, the choice is yours. Let’s take a look at the return on investment for healthy dieting.

Healthy ROI

Healthy dieting means that you are consuming life-giving nutrients. However, some life-giving nutrients can be on the boring sound and leave little to no excitement. This may be true in some cases, but breaking bad habits is difficult. If you are dieting to rewire your output, then you must change your input.

Let’s say you desire all A’s during your next semester of college, but you have a bad habit of procrastinating. You binge-watch TV and you go to sleep late. You are for sure in for a surprise (maybe not a surprise) when the grades are available. Now let’s look at if you change your mental diet towards your goal. You decide to study and limit the TV. You also decide to set a time for bed to give yourself enough time for class preparation.

In the above scenario, your healthy diet is consuming the information required to succeed in the class as well as priming your body to be ready for the next day. The return on this investment rather than the TV is great grades.

Regarding consuming healthy foods such as whole foods, the return on your investment is your health and wellness. Such foods, help fight against disease and hormone balance. This is how we prime our bodies to be optimized. This is beneficial to all athletes. Because athletes push their bodies to their limits, refueling with life-giving foods helps rebuild muscles and provide necessary recovery to stay in the fight. Moreso, it’s all about feeling good and not being prone to sickness so easily.

Unhealthy Dieting

With just about anything in life, there is a wrong way to do things and a right way. The wrong way is always the easiest outlook, for the right way is the hardest way outlook. The opposite of healthy dieting is unhealthy dieting. Unhealthy dieting is always the most exciting way to live a life. For example, most people would choose to watch a reality TV show than read a book. The book would somehow add value to your mind versus the reality TV show will not. Let’s take another example. Most people would take a cheeseburger and fries over a grilled chicken and veggies. The cheeseburger would not add much value, while the grilled chicken and veggies would provide life-giving nutrients.

Unhealthy dieting can also be described as many other things, however, it boils down to producing unhealthy habits. Healthy dieting yields healthy results, while unhealthy dieting yields unhealthy results. You are what you consume and what you consume will show in production. This reflects on your health’s return on investment.

Unhealthy ROI

Although most unhealthy consumers are aware that they are not healthy consumers, they may not be aware of the damage they are doing to their bodies. Unhealthy diets may cause significant loss of time when it comes to mental consumption. Regarding a food diet, unhealthy foods may cause inflammation within vital organs causing medical complications. This limits your physical ability, recovery time, and drastic mood changes.

With mood and hormone changes being negatively affected, they hurt relationships. And don’t mean just with people. It can also hurt your relationship with your goals. Unhealthy diets can leave you feeling sluggish, lazy, and sickly. This will cause you to lag in the motivational department. The return on investment in regards to an unhealthy diet is regret and a path to very poor health. Overall, this is not beneficial for your progression, diet, and mental health.

Conclusion

As much as consumers value their peace and happiness, it is beneficial to be aware of your health. Although an unhealthy diet is more appealing, it does take a toll on your overall well-being. It does not particularly add value to your health and vitality. It takes away from your potential. A healthy diet on the other hand is prescribed because it is considered life-giving components. For example, binge-watching TV only takes away from your goal, while studying your passion adds to your goal. Or eating fried and sugary foods often takes away from your health while eating healthy optimizes your body to be ready for the day.

Regardless of what kind of diet you are on, it is always room for improvement. We must serve our bodies properly so that they may serve us physically and mentally in the long run. It is never too late to change bad habits and never too late to rewire your mind to think and become healthy. Lastly, it takes discipline to serve your body so, for anything to work, you must work. Make the change and live a prosperous life. Bless.
