Bottom Line Up Front
Motivation: When there are numerous items on your to-do list, it is important to give each task its required attention. Not doing so causes a distraction from the quality output that is required to complete the task. Trying to figure out one problem while solving another will take you away from the present. You must separate your mind from each idea to not overwhelm, distract, or miss an opportunity to marginalize error.
What’s On Your Mind?
Motivation is powerful, especially when our brains are wired to continuously work around the clock. Because of motivation, our brains are always providing us with a thought. Depending on how many outside stimuli that are affecting your mind, your mind may work overtime to provide clarity to your thoughts. This can be because of a to-do list, various worries, and anxieties about the future. Depending on your workload, this may be your daily routine but let’s take a deep breath.
Not all stressors are bad stressors but the worries of an outside stimulus could overshadow the current task at hand. This can cause you to become distracted from providing 100% effort to said task. This happens to a lot of gym-goers. They go to the gym but fail to have that mind-muscle connection because they are distracted by other ideas other than working out. I call this, a lack of segregation of motivation.
What is Segregation of Motivation?
Segregation of motivation is when you isolate your thoughts into a single focus to complete a task in full focus. The lack of segregation of motivation is when you have multiple thoughts, ideas, or worries in mind while trying to accomplish a task. The importance of practicing segregation of motivation is it increases the quality of throughput regarding work ethic. Also, it rids memory loss, anxiety, and being overwhelmed.
Applying Segregation of Motivation
Staying on topic with fitness, it is important that when you plan out a gym session, you leave your thoughts at the check-in counter. At this moment, you are only focused on your fitness goals. This means this is not the time to think about friends, other projects, work, or even home life. They are all motivating factors, however, at this point, they are distractors. The goal is to have an effective workout.
Any idea or thought that takes you away from the task at hand will become a distraction. You must segregate the idea and come up with a time to accomplish that thought. “There is a time and place for everything”.

Benefits of Segregation of Motivation
The benefits of practicing segregation of motivation are straightforward. The benefits are an increase in work ethic which leads to higher quality of output. Because you are not thinking about a million and one thing while trying to accomplish one task, you are meditating on one item at a time.
Another benefit is that it reduces the anxiety or stress that comes with overthinking. Overthinking will take away from the experience of progression if not isolated from tasks. Focus on the present and plan for tomorrow. Lastly, it equates to better time management. If separating tasks is put into practice, then you will have to plan out how time is spent. This will lead you to create a plan and manage your time efficiently, thus making you more productive.
Conclusion
Being a motivated person is a lot to carry. Many thoughts circulate in your mind throughout the day. This can be overwhelming and distracting. Separating tasks and preventing your mind from overlapping into different tasks is what is necessary to ensure quality goes into each task.
Lastly, segregation of motivation is not a way to prevent those from learning how to be multitaskers, however, this method is to make sure things are getting the required attention that is needed. Remember, you do not want to go to the gym and sort out your homework. You came to the gym to get a pump. So let the pump be the focus instead of losing momentum during your workout.
Alright family, keep going and as always, nothing works unless you do. Bless.
